Doors Open Toronto 2024

For 60 years, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) has served as the gathering point for the Japanese Canadian community and for those of non-Japanese ancestry who have an interest in things Japanese in the Greater Toronto Area. We are excited to showcase our variety of arts and cultural programs during Doors Open 2024.

Self-guided and in-person guided tours are available for our permanent exhibit, "Maru: Immigration Stories," to learn about the global Japanese diaspora community and Japanese Canadian history.

The JCCC Gallery is proud to host our spring photography exhibit, Body/Armour, curated by Shin Sugino and Stephen Bulger. The exhibit features work by Claudia Fährenkemper and Ruth Kaplan. An artist talk with Ruth Kaplan will take place on Sunday, May 26th, at 2 p.m.

Visitors are welcome to try their hands at the traditional Japanese arts of Ikebana (flower arranging), Sumi-e (ink wash painting), and Chadō (tea ceremony).

Hula performances and observations of martial arts classes will all be available. The JCCC is home to eight high-performing and unique martial arts clubs—visitors are welcome to observe classes in Karate, Judo, Aikido, Kyudo (Japanese archery), Kendo (Japanese art of fencing), Iaido (traditional drawing and cutting with a samurai sword), Jodo (martial arts with a staff), and Nginata (martial arts with Japanese blades).

Please note that Chadō and Ikebana have a $15/per person fee.
